Immediately after hostilities ceased in World War
I, the economy in Western Canada began a rapid and extensive expansion. Money
and credit were in abundance, and immigration from the British Isles and the
Scandinavian nations was on the rise. Regina was receiving its share of this
immigration, and future prospects for the City were bright.
In the late fall
of 1922, Bro. Ernest Cullum Bird received from M. W. Bro. Alex Sheppard (Grand
Master of the Grand Lodge of Saskatchewan) a promise of a dispensation to form
another Masonic Lodge in the City of Regina upon submission of an application
signed by at least 50 non-affiliated Masons, residing in Regina and of good
standing.
A meeting was
held in the Post Office Building in Regina on the 20th day of December, 1922 at
8:00 pm for the purpose of organizing a new Lodge in the City of Regina.
Brethren present included Geo. Milne, E.C. Bird, H.B. Urquhart, Alex. Cheyne,
W. Leslie, F.G. Madill, George Stephenson, T.H. Hewitt, M. Barker, C.W.
Doody, J. Mills, and D.H. Harris. It was moved by Bro. Barker and seconded by
Bro. Hewitt that the new Lodge be named St. Andrew's.
